What Is Traditional Lime Mortar Pointing?
Traditional lime mortar pointing uses breathable lime-based mortars rather than hard, impermeable cement. This breathability lets moisture escape from the wall fabric, reducing the risk of trapped water, frost damage and recurring decay. Whether you need stone wall lime mortar pointing or pointing stone with lime mortar for older properties, our approach respects the original construction and long-term performance of the building.
Lithomex Stone Service & Stone Restoration
While lime pointing restores the joints, many repair jobs also need surface repairs to eroded stone. Our Lithomex stone service lets us match colour where replacement isn’t required, saving you time and money. Using specialist finishing coats and recommended base compounds, at Southwest Restoration we achieve durable results that integrate with lime pointed work and preserve the visual character of your property.
Benefits Of Lime Mortar Pointing
When used for restoration purposes, traditional lime mortar pointing helps to return Ayrshire homes to their natural glory:
- Restore breathability and prevents damp.
- Reduce the need for recurring repairs.
- Preserves period character and historic fabric.
- Works with modern repair systems for a holistic, long-lasting result.
